Jheel road visit: down memory lane

That was late sixties.

As a toddler, we used to stay at Jheel Road, Jadavpur.

After forty years today, I accompanied my mom to the same place. Mrs Kundu(Maiya) was there. Surprisingly not that old.

Next door neighbour(Mother of Nanuadidi) could instantly recognise my mother.

That was a tearful reunion.

There was a big waterbody infront of the house.

Now

Solar eclipse from Greenwood Nook, Kolkata

Well, it was not a total one...but almost total...91% to be precise... with the help of an 'user friendlly' cloud cover we could enjoy the rare celestial event. The pix were compressed so the quality is not that exciting but seems ok nonethelessAfter 1980 and 1995 this was another chance... next one is 105 years away.Till then:-)

Mail on 22 Jan 2009:IADVL e-groups:transition, perspective, rules and future

Respected Sir,After you talked to me over telephone at 11 am, I discussed the matter with Dr.Rajeev at about 12 noon. We discussed about the smooth transition process. It was agreed that except tsdf_iadvl and wcd_iadvl (for wcd 2007 scholarship holders) Dr. Rajeev will start moderating all the other yahoogroups with immediate effect. As everyday a moderator gets many spam approval requests and some membership requests and subsequently members get impatient when they don't see their posting on the web and start sending personal mails to the moderators, it was agreed between us to declare about this change of guards by an e-mail to the members.I consulted him and informed him before sending the farewell mail.Even before that 4-5 spam approval requests had reached my inbox and were pending for the moderator to approve. After a full five hours of your phone call I sent that farewell mail to the members precisely at 4 pm In any organization it is the duty of the outgoing team leader to introduce the new leader. That is the basic courtesy and protocol we always follow. As the outgoing moderator it was within my call of duty to introduce the new moderator my successor Dr. Rajeev Sharma. That was a pleasant privilege, which cannot be taken as jumping the gun from my end.In e-group related matters, throughout last 26 months, I always used to respond within fraction of seconds or minutes. Here I took long five hours before sending that mail. So, that cannot be regarded as 'soon'. Sir, I am not sending this mail to the yahoogroups as that is needless.I have already appealed to the members to stop sending personal praise mails to the group as those are also needless. Another point, IADVL e-groups are now very important organs of IADVL. It was decided that in the next edition of the Constitution the 'rules governing IADVL e-groups' will have to be incorporated. In 2007, before Gangtok EC some initial rules were drafted by me and Dr. Suresh Joshipura for presentation on behalf of the constitution committee. He may kindly be contacted for that draft as this can be helpful. I have talked to Rajeev and enquired about his health.Thankfully he is afebrile now and just started his clinics.I wished him to get well soon. I am sure he will do a great job.Regards,Koushik

Farewell mail on 21st Jan 2009 to IADVL e groups

Since Oct 2006, I was handling various IADVL e-groups as the founder owner and moderator. As you know, after my tenure as the Honorary General Secretary of IADVL was over, I continued as the moderator of academic and general discussion groups on the basis of a request from my successor Dr. Rajeev Sharma and the then President Dr. S. Sacchidanand. Now, I have been relieved of my job as the moderator of these two e-groups. From now on Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Honorary General Secretary of IADVL himself will own and moderate all the IADVL e-groups.Any request regarding any of the yahoogroups may henceforth be forwarded to him at gsiadvl@gmail.com (As I am the principle investigator of the Topical Steroid Dependent/Damged Face (TSDF) study group, I will continue to own and moderate this group as before. Same will be applicable to WCD_IADVL(an e-group created for IADVL fellows who attended WCD 2007) group as well. This is as per a telephonic discussion with the Honorary General Secretary, Dr. Rajeev Sharma) From the day the futuristic e-groups were conceptualised, it was really an enriching experience for me at least.I have learnt so many things from you all. These e-groups have virtually revolutionised the way we communicate, interact and coordinate.I think this would be the most fitting moment to thank you all for the affection, guidance and support I got from you throughout my tenure as the group moderator.I tried to address any issue instantly, for the simple reason, if I don't address then and there, I may not get the chance to do that again in my life time(tenure). While carrying out this pleasant job day in and day out the biggest gain for me was to get inneumerable genuine friends.Today the groups are official organs of IADVL,the real voice of our members. For me together this is a big magic carpet which is carrying IADVL through a wonderful flight into the future. These are all your success. Any lapses on my behalf may kindly be excused, as those were purely unintentional. My only request is for all of you to increase the strength of these e-groups. Each one of you may please introduce at least two more members for these e-groups, especially acad_iadvl. Now that I am relieved, I will be able to concentrate on other things that life has in store for me.I am sure Dr. Rajeev Sharma will get the same level of help, support and coopeartion from you all, which I have always enjoyed . Long live IADVL and IADVL e-groupsDr. Koushik Lahiri.
Moderator, IADVL e-groups
